This is a stunning collection. Me last night: “Oh this story will be my favorite…..oh no this one is better…. THIS ONE IS THE BEST….” There are two that didn’t speak to me quite as passionately as the others (I won’t name names), but this is definitely the strongest collection I’ve read in years. Oyeyemi’s writing is simply beautiful, but we all expect that from her at this point. I loved picking up the familiar threads and faces from story to story. My absolute favorites were “Books and Roses”, “‘Sorry’ Doesn’t Sweeten Her Tea”, and “A Brief History of the Homely Wench Society”.
