The meat and potatoes: read if you love crying. I don’t read contemporary fiction unless there’s a mystery involved or magical realism (the snake-handling and the story about Dill’s grandfather/family curse lent this an edge of magical realism so I’ll blame that!), but I found myself flying through this gorgeous, multi-layered story of love, friendship, and self-awareness. Dill, Lydia, and Travis make for a great rag-tag trio of viewpoints (and lots of tears), by turns melancholy, upbeat, and big-hearted.~Allison Senecal
