Just like the country itself, and as the title implies, this book perfectly captures that paradoxical nature that is North Korea. In one page it’s both depressing and inspiring, heartbreaking and hilarious. Wendy Simmons herself is the perfect narrator as she is equal parts cheeky smart-ass and astute observer. Those looking for political or historical information on the country won’t find much here (since even Simmon’s guides didn’t really seem to know), but this is a fascinating recounting of one woman’s journey into an insane country.

They say comedy and tragedy go hand-in-hand, and I hope Simmons’ adventure is proof of that. I had no idea that such a book even existed, but you can bet that I’m incredibly interested now thanks to your review.
