Though “If I Was Your Girl” certainly has its heartbreaking moments (I cried a lot while reading the flashbacks), it’s ultimately a very sweet and hopeful novel. Amanda has a generally supportive family (it takes her father a bit to really understand/accept, but her mother is a great presence) and mostly supportive friend circle. She also “gets the guy”, and boy was that a joy to see. I understand that not every trans narrative is a happy one, but it’s refreshing and hopeful to see some representation for those more positive narratives that DO exist. I also heard through the grapevine that the cover model is a trans girl and that is absolutely AMAZING. ~Allison Senecal
