I’ve had the pleasure of reading a few of Kat Howard’s stories in fantasy magazines, and her writing translated marvelously to something novel-length. “Roses and Rot” is brilliant, dark, and lovely: a modern fairy tale about the deep love between two talented sisters. (Howard refers throughout to many other fairy tale sisters in haunting mini-tales-within-a-tale.) Heart-aching imagery and a host of bone-deep supporting characters should also make this an easy sell to any fan of modern speculative fiction! I mean there’s already a Gaiman blurb, so.
