As Booksellers, we’re always reading. And one of our favorite things to do is talk about what we’re reading! So check out a few of the titles we’re loving right now.
Melanie: The Nest by Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney
This book has been featured on the Bestsellers list for awhile — both as a hardcover and as a newly-released paperback. When a used copy came into the store, I jumped on it! In 24hrs I was halfway through it. It’s a absorbing look at a four siblings with problems they’re all looking to solve with a giant influx of cash from the Nest.
Kelvin: Robert Lowell, Setting the River on Fire: A Study of Genius, Mania, and Character, by Kay Redfield Jamison
I’ve never been sure I “get” Lowell’s poetry, but I’ve always been fascinated by his dual life as an artist and as someone who suffered from severe bipolar disorder when the disease had neither official clinical name or effective treatment. Jamison approaches her subject as a professor of both English and clinical psychiatry, making for a fascinating, double-barrel exploration of creative genius and mental illness and the possible links between them.
Revati: Assassination Vacation by Sarah Vowell
Summer is often the time for a good, long vacation. Sarah Vowell will take you on an interesting tour of the country that probably no one else has thought to do…visiting the places where U.S. presidents have been assassinated. With her dry humor and historical insights, Vowell will take you on a vacation that you never knew you wanted.
Tara: Spoonbenders by Daryl Gregory
Grifters, mobsters, and psychics populate this familial drama set in 1995. With multiple points of view the strings of this story all build toward one day and one climactic ending. If you’re looking for complex and flawed characters, and a dash of adventure, then give this one a try.
