(Virtual) Indie Bookstore Day!

Hello readers!

Today was supposed to be the Sixth Annual Independent Bookstore Day! Alas, the pandemic has made it impossible for us to have our usual party in the store, but worry not! We’ll bring the party to you!

We’re celebrating today by featuring videos over on our Instagram in which some of the staff talk up their favorite books. I’ll also be spotlighting some of the bookish gifts you can still get here in this blog post. And we’ll be talking about a super secret giveaway over on Facebook, so keep an eye out for that! Tomorrow, Renee will be giving a virtual store tour to get you back in the Old Firehouse without leaving your couch! And we’re going to be doing the next push of our GoFundMe, which is only 1,034 dollars away from 15k–and then it’s only 10k more to the goal! We are rounding the far turn, heading for the home stretch, but we’re not quite there yet. Anything you can donate is appreciated!

The usual party and exclusive merch will (hopefully) be happening this year in August. August 29th, to be exact. Keep an eye out for more details as we get closer to that date–obviously, it’s subject to change, as is everything in this topsy-turvy world, but we would love to be back to doors open and partying in August! We hope you will be, too!

For now, enjoy the #VirtualBookstoreParty hashtags on every platform of social media, where you can find us and scores of our bookstore friends across the country celebrating today!

On a normal Indie Bookstore Day, we take the day to celebrate not only books, but also to feature the bookish gifts and paraphernalia that go with being an avid reader. Since most of these items don’t appear on our website (which pulls it’s inventory from our distributor, not from the store itself), it’s been hard to get them to you while our doors are closed. But since we normally talk up our bookish extras on IBD, I couldn’t break with tradition!

If there are any bookish gifts or items or add-ons that you find yourself without, you can give us a call or send us an email! We’ll add the item on to your order no problem, even if you can’t add them to your cart online. Just let us know what you’re missing and tell us to add it to your total!

And if you need a refresher on what bookish items we’ve got, here are some of our favorites:

We’ve got buttons upon buttons for only $1.25! Every Pride flag you can imagine, we’ve got it. We also have a range of fun nerdy buttons from ones featuring the One Ring to Wonder Woman’s symbol, from our favorite Hermione For President campaign buttons to the tiny baby Groot.

BookJigs are our favorite bookmarks, gorgeous and sturdy with a beautiful ribbon to keep your place. They’re only $5.99 and will brighten up your book and easily save your spot when you drift off to sleep in the middle of a chapter.

StickerArt stickers are absolute favorites among staff and customers. These beautifully detailed vinyl stickers are perfect for laptops, water bottles, e-readers, and more. Only $2.95 and Colorado-made!

Chase away isolation boredom with Magnetic Poetry Kits! In various themes from Shakespeare and Austen to Music and Puppies, these great magnets will let you turn your fridge into a drawing board of creativity. $11.95 a piece, you can get two and mix and match–imagine a fridge poem featuring Shakespeare and puppies! These will definitely keep you occupied!

Also, don’t forget Theo chocolate bars! In all the flavors of the rainbow, you can easily add one or three of these to your order and give yourself a little sweetness to brighten your day! (And I’ll let you in on a super special secret: we’ll be restarting curbside pickup next week, and if you add some chocolate to your pick up order, it’ll be 30% off! But shh, it’s not technically announced yet, so don’t tell anyone!)

An of course, there is out assortment of bookish, nerdy t-shirts and socks!

If you have questions about any of these great bookish items, shoot us an email at info@oldfirehousebooks.com and we’ll be happy to help!

Thanks for celebrating Indie Bookstore Day with us virtually, and we look forward to celebrating in person later this year!

Happy reading!
